Check out The Teen Lounge!
The Teen Lounge is a designated space within Elmont Public Library aimed at teens between grades 7-12. This is a place where teens can work on homework, use the computers, meet up with their friends or simply relax.
Here teens can also find a variety of Young Adult fiction and non- fiction books, magazines, biographies as well as fiction audio books.
Our special collections include: graphic novels (manga and comics), ‘popular series’ fiction, paper-back novels, test preparation and college information titles, summer reading titles, and YA reference.
The YA librarians also select materials appropriate for teens that are located within the library’s Media Collection. We have six research computers and a printer for those times when teens need to work on their school project, find an answer to a homework question, or just play a game.
The Young Adult Department offers a range of programs intended just for teens: arts and crafts workshops, cooking classes, dance workshop, college information and preparation programs, babysitting workshop and the, well attended, video game tournaments.
In addition to offering a variety of very popular Summer Reading Programs, we sponsor a monthly Teen Screen, our annual Teen Read Week, as well as Teen Tech Week.
The Teen Advisory Group also meets monthly and offers a forum in which teens give their ideas and suggestions related to programming, materials selection and issues that relate to teens and libraries.
Lastly - in addition to providing materials, programs and special services to teens, the Young Adult Department aspires to create a welcoming atmosphere that will not only encourage young adults to use all the library resources and continue to read for pleasure but also remain lifelong library users.
